University of Alberta

Volunteer

Volunteering as an Alumni Ambassador is a great way to give back to the University, meet new people, gain experience, and help students.

How Can I Get Involved?
Currently Alumni Ambassadors can participate in: Student Recruitment, Career Advising, Job Shadow Hosting, Student Mentoring, Alumni Programs & Events, and Community Service Projects. You can choose how you become involved depending on where you live, your interests, and your availability.

Time Commitment
Volunteering may take as little as 30 minutes yearly, depending on whether the Alumni Association or University has a particular need for volunteers at any given time in your community or in your area of interest.

Duties
On an ongoing basis we ask all Alumni Ambassadors to stay informed about the University (reading New Trail and E-Trail) and to  informally share good news stories about the U of A with friends and colleagues. In addition, as volunteer opportunities arise, we ask that you consider becoming involved, lending a hand as needed.

How to Join?
First, read through the list of ways to get involved, then simply complete a volunteer interest form online.  The Office of Alumni Affairs will provide you with start-up information and outline the next steps to sign up for potential opportunities as they arise.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities:

Job Shadow Hosting

Alumni job shadow hosts are needed during Reading Week Feb 21 to 24, 2012. Hosting a student in your workplace for one day provides valuable experience that is rewarding for both the student and employers.  Any individual working in the Edmonton area is welcome to participate. Deadline to sign up is January 11, 2012.

To get involved, sign up as an Alumni Ambassador or contact Alexis Lockwood of CAPS: Your U of A Career Center directly at alexis.lockwood@ualberta.ca or 780-492-6759.
